Powers Distributing Present Craft Beer Expo @ Canterbury Village May 15th.

Posted on 09:32 by Unknown
I visited Powers Distributing main headquarters and warehouse earlier this week for a tour and to interview Bobby Vedder, a certified cicerone and representative for Powers, to discuss their first craft beer expo to be held May 15th at Canterbury Village from 6-9pm. With an impressive lineup of craft brewers in attendance, it should be a rousing success for it's inaugural run, with some brewers bringing some custom one off beers for guest to sample along with multiple food stations provided by Canterbury Village.

Craft Beer Expo May 15 at Canterbury Village
Craft beer fans unite! In recognition of American Craft Beer Week, Powers Distributing established its first Craft Beer Expo, which will take place 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at Canterbury Village, 2369 Joslyn Ct. in Lake Orion. The event will feature 16 breweries - including five from Michigan - as well as a strolling dinner, and raffle prizes for event guests.
Tickets for the event cost $15, and include eight 3 ounce beer samples and strolling dinner; and $5 from each ticket sold will benefit Rock Star (Sustainable Talent And Retention) Warriors, a Michigan nonprofit that works to provide jobs for Michigan’s veterans. Tickets can be purchased online at www.craftbeerexpo.net. Additional beer tasting tickets may be purchased at the event. Ticket purchasers and event guests must be of legal drinking age. Guests are encouraged to drink responsibly.
“Craft beer is exploding in popularity,” said Gary Thompson, chief operating officer of Powers Distributing. “Michigan is the fifth largest craft beer state in the country. Our breweries are experiencing fantastic development and the state offers an amazing selection of both local and national beers to craft beer drinkers. To celebrate this, we created a local beer event. American Craft Beer Week seemed to be the perfect time to invite the public to learn more about this 4,000-year-old beverage and how wonderfully it pairs with cuisine.”
Participating breweries include: Cheboygan Brewing Company, Dragonmead Brewing Company, Kuhnhenn Brewing Company, Saugatuck Brewing Company, Uncle John's Cider, Oskar Blues Brewery, Blue Moon Brewing Company, Tenth & Blake Beer Company, Samuel Adams – The Boston Beer Company, Magic Hat Brewing Company, Vermont Hard Cider Company (Woodchuck), Brooklyn Brewery, Boulder Beer Company, Tommyknocker Brewing Company, Spoetzl Brewery (Shiner), and Anchor Brewing Company.
Nine Canterbury Village food stations will provide pasta, chicken and beef cuisine samples including:
·         Bow tie pasta with fresh marinara and hand grated parmesan.
·         Bow tie pasta tossed in olive oil, garlic, and fresh herbs and lightly sprinkled with Romano cheese.
·         Bow tie pasta served with a rich creamy Alfredo sauce and topped with fresh brigade herbs.
·         Lightly breaded boneless chicken breast baked and served with a Champagne cream sauce and topped with shoestring vegetables.
·         Boneless chicken breast coated with rich honey and baked to perfection, then drizzled with a sweet and zesty barbecue sauce.
·         Chicken breast marinated with soy, honey, teriyaki and fresh herbs, topped with fresh grilled pineapple and sprinkled with crispy bacon.
·         Tenderloin beef tips sautéed with onion and mushrooms and finished with a robust zip sauce.
·         Tenderloin tips tossed with bell pepper, red onion and fresh herbs and spices.
·         Midwest style beef tips marinated and cooked to perfection, and dusted with a Canterbury Cajun spice.
As the beneficiary of the Craft Beer Expo, Thompson said he recognizes Rock Star Warriors for the work they do for our veterans. The event will allow patrons to “celebrate the service and return of those who have given the most for our safety, and those that make it possible for us to pursue our passions here at home,.” He said.
Julie Mann, founder of Rock Star Warriors, said she was pleased to be involved with the event in its first year. “We consider our military as a longstanding and large 'family' with a shared sense of purpose and mission, said Mann. “We consider ourselves fortunate to work with a company such as Powers who believes in the importance of longevity and family.”
The Craft Beer Expo will also offer event goers a chance to win raffle prizes including a Shiner Bock bike, bean bag toss game, a Weber Grill, and a golf bag. The purchase of an event ticket, each of which has a control number printed on it, automatically qualifies guests to enter to win one of these prizes. Winners of each item will be announced at the event by ticket number. Winners must be present to win.
Greater Media Detroit’s WCSX 94.7 FM is the event’s media sponsor. Visit www.wcsx.com for details about how you can win free event tickets from WCSX.

Rockin’ on the Riverfront lineup is ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’

Posted on 09:28 by Unknown

The annual free summer concert series kicks off Friday, July 12 outside GM Renaissance Center.

DETROIT – (May 1, 2013) – Rock and roll returns to the Detroit Riverfront this summer for the annual Rockin’ on the Riverfront summer concert series presented by Chevrolet. Once again, the 2013 lineup is sure to satisfy classic rock fans who look forward to this event each year.

Kicking off Friday, July 12, Rockin’ on the Riverfront will offer six free consecutive Friday evenings of rock and roll fun. Located in the heart of the city, between the GM Renaissance Center and Detroit River, the event has become a summer destination for dining and entertainment in Detroit.

“The words ‘Chevrolet’ and ‘Detroit’ are synonymous with enjoying good times and memorable music, and our cars and trucks have inspired some of rock and roll’s best songs,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing.

In partnership with Detroit's #1 for Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX-FM, Rockin’ on the Riverfront will amaze rock audiences with Friday night shows from 7:30-10 p.m. July 12 through Aug. 16.

This year’s full schedule includes:
July 12: The Romantics (What I Like About You, Talkin’ in Your Sleep)
July 19: America (A Horse with No Name, Sister Golden Hair)
July 26: Grand Funk Railroad (Some Kind of Wonderful, We’re an American Band)
Aug. 2: Great White (Once Bitten Twice Shy, Rock Me)
Aug. 9: Loverboy (Working for the Weekend, Turn Me Loose)
Aug. 16: Night Ranger (Sister Christian, (You Can Still) Rock in America)

“As a long time Detroiter, there’s nothing like spending summer nights in the Motor City at Rockin’ on the Riverfront,” said Doug Podell, afternoon host at WCSX. “What’s better than free rock and roll concerts with legendary performers set along the Detroit River and GM Renaissance Center? For those who have never experienced Rockin’ on the Riverfront, make it a point to catch the shows this year.”

Admission to the concerts is always free and no tickets are necessary. Viewing space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, but outside food, beverages and coolers are not permitted. In addition, boaters on the Detroit River are welcome to anchor near the riverfront and enjoy the shows from the water.

Andiamo Detroit Riverfront will provide refreshments and food concessions at several locations across the plaza. Andiamo Detroit Riverfront and Joe Muer Seafood will accept dinner reservations before and after the concert and both restaurants offer outdoor patios overlooking the Detroit River and the Rockin’ on the Riverfront stage.

Convenient parking is available for $5 per vehicle, starting at 5 p.m., at the GM surface lot at the intersection of St. Antoine and Atwater streets, adjacent to the GM Renaissance Center.

The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is offering an incredible package during the concerts. The Marriott-Andiamo Romance Retreat package includes a four-course dinner at Andiamo Detroit Riverfront and overnight accommodations at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. For reservations call (888) 313-5001 and mention promotional code WN9 or visit The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center online.

Listen to 94.7 WCSX each week during Rockin’ on the Riverfront for a chance to win VIP seats, a catered dinner by Andiamo, and meet and greet opportunities with the bands.

Fans are invited to watch FOX 2 in the Morning every week to enter a FOX 2 EXPOSED contest for a chance to win a VIP prize package, which includes two (2) VIP access wristbands and lanyards with front-row seats, dinner for two (2) at Andiamo Detroit Riverfront in the Rockin’ on the Riverfront VIP section (the evening of the concert only), overnight accommodations for two (2) at The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center (the evening of the concert only, and excludes the July 26, 2013 concert), free parking in the Beaubien Garage located on Beaubien Street (the evening of the concert only), WCSX 94.7 FM freebies, and a band meet-and-greet (if available). To enter, access the online contest entry form on MyFoxDetroit.com and follow instructions. The first contest will take place on Monday, July 8 during the morning broadcast.

In addition to Chevrolet, the 2013 Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series is sponsored in partnership with Detroit’s #1 for Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX-FM, Quicken Loans and WJBK FOX 2.

Black Moth Super Rainbow
Magic Stick Detroit
Friday, May 10th 2013

It's their first Detroit show in support of their new album, Cobra Juicy, which was released last year on the band's own Rad Cult label.

Get tickets here

The roller rink is cracked. Summer is seeping in. The lacquered floor boards are all warped, but the disco ball spins. Ladies and gentlemen, Black Moth Super Rainbow has left the woods, and the man called Tobacco lords over a gang of demon skaters from the DJ booth of some greased up auditorium in a lost corner of Pittsburgh. The band's fifth LP Cobra Juicy declares death to hippies, excising all things flower power and tightening up what sprawl there was into a nastily bright pile of fuzzed guitar, live bass, hot synths and stubby rhythms—eleven pieces of hard candy licked, dipped in dirt, and wrapped up for you. There nearly wasn't a new Black Moth record at all. In hindsight, 2009's Eating Us seemed too soft, too '70s. Tobacco felt he'd lost control of his main project's sound and so focused on "solo" work. But while crafting 2010's depraved beat beast Maniac Meat, he found himself writing more freely, rediscovering the sickly sour to Black Moth's sweet. Then he realized, fuck it, this thing is his baby anyhow. He cleaned house on the live band—now Seven Fields of Aphelion, Iffernaut, Ryan Graveface and Bullsmear—and got to work, alone, on a brand new BMSR album.

Then he threw that one away and made Cobra Juicy.
