The Backpack Music Festival (formerly Detroit House Music Picnic) is the flagship event of SCP Michigan, a non-profit organization that donates backpacks and school supplies to Metro Detroit area school children in need through the Backpacking for Success program. Last year's event at Midtown's New Center Park (7th Annual) expanded the musical variety a bit from the usual House and Techno DJs and artists and added a few mainstream acts but still made for an enjoyable event for all. The 8th Annual Backpack Music Festival is on track to deliver more as it returns to where it all started – Detroit’s jewel – Belle Isle Park on Saturday August 3, 2013 from 8am until Dark.
The line up for the 8th Annual Backpack Festival features Juan Atkins (Godfather of Techno), DJ extraordinaire Terrence Parker, DJ Psycho, Bruce Bailey, DJ Seoul & TLinder - Detroit Techno Militia - doing 2x4 Turntables, DJ Maestro (Hustle/Line Dance King) and more. The event also includes a few live bands like Lola Valley (ft. Monica Blaire), spoken word performers like Jessica Care Moore, and others. Full line up and more info coming soon at www.BackpackMusicFestival.
