It’s a good time to be a folk rock band at in the US right now. The Lumineers prove that with the success of their platinum self-titled debut album. The Lumineers have had a meteoric ascent to the top of their class, with their music plastering the radio and charts. They last played Detroit in June at the 1,000 person capacity Magic Bag in Ferndale. Now, one year later, they’re making their way back to Metro Detroit with their explosive live show at Clarkston’s 15,274 capacity DTE Energy Music Theatre on June 6, 2013 with Cold War Kids and J. Roddy Walston & the Business. The five piece band features Wesley Schultz on lead vocals and guitar, drummer Jeremiah Fraites, Neyla Pekarek on cello and supporting vocals, Stelth Ulvang on piano and Ben Wahamaki on bass. The Lumineers signed a record deal with indie folk label Dualtone in January of 2012 and released their album The Lumineers in April.
Their debut single, “Ho Hey”, became an inescapable worldwide radio smash, hitting the top 10 on 6 different US Billboard charts and selling almost 4 million copies in the process. They played Saturday Night Live in January and were up for Best New Artist and Best Americana album at the Grammys in February. Follow up single, “Stubborn Love”, is currently sitting high at number 2 at Alternative radio and is still climbing the other format charts. Their debut album is already certified platinum and they have a huge summer ahead of them playing at Lollapalooza, Coachella, Glastonbury, Shaky Knees, Roskilde, Wakarusa and a whole bunch of other US and International festivals. Next single, “Submarines”, should surely extend the shelf life of their debut album.
